Aloha Kristin and John — thank you for the great advice. Facebook out here is really not very useful, nor is my website. Nextdoor is only usable for referrals (ND Corporate does not allow advertising, only creation of a business page which shows only your biz name & contact info, no advertising). The referrals on ND have gotten me several new clients.
Really loved John’s advice to sell yourself on the nitty gritty things, not the general “great service” idea, to highlight those things you do that are unique to you, sets you apart from other pet sitters. I will definitely zero in on that in next revision of my brochure. QUESTION: How does one find out what one is or can do to set oneself apart from other area pet sitters?
But I have to say, there “it” is AGAIN: he has help (staff), and possibly some sort of “partner” at home (spouse, roommate, hired help). That theme runs through every source of advice I’ve seen or read — those giving the advice have always had some sort of home and/or business help. This seems to be the main “tool” I’ve been lacking (at home and in business) that would do the most to not only support me but unblock the clog in my business.
I’ll have to look into HOW to find/vet/secure help with my business (I do NOT want to hire employees or I.C.s at this late stage, since I’m 4 years from retirement — that would be an administrative nightmare for me), and/or a roommate (which has its own set of “trap doors” but CAN sometimes work well). I’ll figure something out (smile). Am open to suggestions, however (pawsnponies@gmail.com).
